Dealership Hosted Parent-Teen Workshops

In just 90 minutes, Foundation sponsored workshops can help teens and their parents survive (and enjoy) those critical months when a teen is learning to drive … any beyond.  These workshops combine a facilitated discussion with interactive sessions that share proven, effective ways to develop safe and smart driving habits.

When you attend one of our workshops, you won’t hear someone telling you what not to do.  Instead, we want to help you understand the risks and challenges, and how to effectively respond to those challenges by using proven methods.

Workshops are typically hosted by our members, and are led by a either a Foundation expert program partner, a safety professional, educator or student leaders. The following areas can be included in a 90-minute interactive workshop:

  • Help educate parents on the importance of staying involved with their teen driver
  • Being a Good Role Model
  • Distracted, impaired and drowsy driving
  • Seat belts – why they are so important
  • Understanding the Graduated Driver License (GDL)
  • Effectively Enforcing the GDL at Home
  • The need for increased practice driving
  • Controlling the Keys
  • And more

Each workshop will also include a basic vehicle maintenance demonstration led by the dealership service manager/advisor. During this time, participants will learn some basic maintenance tips that include how to:

  • Check fluids including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.
  • Check the hoses and belts to make sure they are not cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or showing signs of excessive wear.
  • Check the battery and replace if necessary. Make sure the connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free.
  • Check the brake system annually and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected at each oil change.
  • Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots.
  • Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving during precipitation.
  • Change a tire
  • And more
